I'm sad to have finished this late when people are asleep and I'm too exhausted to truly talk about my love for this series. I'll just say that if you like mysteries that aren't dark but make you think, I highly recommend this! This was what made me wanna read more mysteries and try Sherlock Holmes stories. Its been so long since I've read this first volume, so glad to have revisited the first moments of the series again.

Honey I Shrunk the Detective!
Japanese manga’s longest running detective series! It is really fun!!! 30 years old and the mystery still feels fresh! Happy I checked it out on the new Viz Manga app.

I only committed myself to this long series 2 years ago, and I'm already back for a re-read. Volume 1 of Case Closed is the perfect introduction for the journey we're about to embark on! It introduces all our main characters and what their relationships are in such a natural way that you adore the sweet relationship between Shinichi and Ran, and you are terrified of the men in black. Not to mention the premise of Shinichi being shrunk into teeny tiny Conan is PERFECT!!! Aoyama truly explores Conan's struggles expertly, with him not only having to solve who the criminal is, but also having to lead others to the same conclusion, due to them not trusting a 'child's' opinion (for obvious reasons).
It's an absolutely fantastic start to the entire series, a real joy to re-read, though I am reading the officially translation this go around, and it is awfully jarring reading Shinichi as 'Jimmy' and Ran as 'Rachel', it's a rather odd name choice. But, that aside I had no problems with this volume (though the story is definitely a product of it's time, with the odd 'saved by a girl' comment and technology not being as advanced as it will later be in the series, neither I found that distracting though, just kinda funny to see).

I really liked this manga. The art style was simplistic enough that it didn't detract from the story. The volume is, essentially, a collection is short stories with one central plot stringing them together. I love a good, heartwarming detective story and this manga just feels very nostalgic; the framing is very nineties.
