I rather liked this little story. It's well told and I felt more gripped by the fact it was written in journal format, slowly unfolded, and dates uncertain, as though we were walking in the hazy shadows of memory where only certain seconds were pulled into startling clarity.

I was very taken with Mary, the not-quite a Witch by choice, except in name and stricken requests, who had become a Puritan by no means of her own. I cannot wait to see what book two has in store for me once I get my hands on it.

I loved "The Witch of Blackbird Pond" as a young girl so I was already predisposed towards the subject matter of this book. It was very simply written (maybe a little too simply for my tastes) but it was engaging. Characters, good and bad were well drawn but I thought the author was a little heavy-handed with the science vs. religion aspects. I can see why the people of Salem would be happy to see the backside of Reverend Johnson's little band of followers. I also thought that the way things played out in the end was a little too close to "The Crucible" but I still look forward to getting my hands on the next installment in Mary's tale.

This was a great book. It really makes you feel how terrifying it was back then for those accused of withcraft (false or not). I really like how it was written as well by leaving you wondering if actual pages of Mary's diary were found in a quilt & that's where the story came from, or if that was just a brilliant idea to make the story more intriguing.

Not bad

The story was good, seemed to move slow at parts until I realized it’s the first in a series. I have mixed feelings on series books. But overall, exciting and a good read. May read the sequels.
