Most of the characters in this story are superstitious Puritans who are going to settle near Salem and it turns out this book ends with a witch hunt. Wow, I had no idea that was going to happen (Cue sarcasm sign).
This book is very dull. And when I care nothing at all for the characters, it makes an already dull book even more tedious. Nothing in this book feels new, even the ending is similar to the beginning of The Crucible. I almost wish this book copied The Crucible entirely, that would have made it more interesting. I should have read a Dear America book instead. I’ve read their book featuring the Salem Witch Trials and it is so much better than this one.

Written off of the 'Mary Papers'... This story is about a girl who had just moved to the New World. One of her family members is drowned by the puritans because they believe them to be a Witch. Running from the Puritans, she flees. In the end the only piece to tell her story is a quilt in which she hid her diary pages in it's pockets so the puritans could never read them and claim her to be a witch(which she is not).

It is 1659 in England and Mary is an orhpan who lives with her grandmother on the edge of a forest. That is until the people of the town come for her grandmother to accuse her of being a witch. Do you know what they did to women that they accused of being a witch? They would try to make them confess through various tortures and if that didn't work they would give them a test. They would tie their right toe to their left thumb and vice versa. Then they would throw them in water. If they sank, hurray. They were not a witch. But they were dead. If they floated, they would quickly fish them out, because that meant they were indeed a witch and the community got to publicly hang her. This is what Mary watched her grandmother endure.
And guess what the people of her little English town thought about the granddaughter of a certified witch? Yep, that she was a witch too. With the help of a stranger she escapes on a ship to America. But guess what, in America she lives among the puritans and they too have their fears of witches and the dark arts.

I liked the book a lot. It was entertaining, and it managed to stay entertaining even when they went on a ship. Although other books become boring after a while, this one kept my interest the whole time.
