What a lovely an honest depiction of gender dysphoria. My heart ached while reading this, but I'm so glad that I did.

this book. it feels so similar to parts of me growing up that it almost hurts, like the scale thing especially that e talk about. and the sentiment of saying "I'm thinking I want to be a boy, not that I am a boy so I don't think I'm trans" and like that rush of adrenaline in summertime presentations where you get gendered like That. additionally the art style feels warm and comforting and i love it.

Wow. So so powerful. This is absolutely fantastic, and you should definitely read it! It makes me sad that this is one of the most banned books right now, because it tells such an important story in a beautiful way. I cannot thank Kobabe enough for telling eir story and sharing it with the world. I was most stuck with the full page illustrations, where Kobabe really made me stop and consider some major themes and messages. E describes what it means to be non-binary in such a visceral, memorable manner. I can see how this would be super affirming to read if you also identify as non-binary, but I think it’s just as necessary to read if you identify as cisgender. I have a much more nuanced understanding now.

I'm not non-binary myself but, a lot of what the author experienced or felt as a child was what I felt as well growing up. It was nice hearing of other people's experiences similar to mine.

(Also I included minor trigger warning for incest because there is a moment where people talked about shipping Sam and Dean from Supernatural)
