This is the most accurate description of Rochester weather I have ever read: "When the annual miracle of spring arrives in Rochester and the city and county burst into bloom, there's no beating this area for the beauty and euphoria the warmer season brings. The sun shines from 60 to 70 percent of the time from May through August... Rochester has no dry season, so be prepared for rain any time you visit. To truly appreciate this transformation to the Technicolor spring and summer seasons in Rochester, however, we must face western New York's impressive winters... Snow is guaranteed -- an average winter sees 95 inches -- and batches of lake effect snow can fall even when the radar shows clear skies. In the winter months from November through January, Rochester sees the sun about 30 to 35 percent of the time."
Rochester is my favorite city. I lived there for a little over a year, including two summers, and I did not spend enough time outside in any season. I have already hiked one of the trails in this book, and I look forward to getting back to the area again soon and wandering in the woods. This guide is easy to read and follow, includes great information and directions, and is an easy, pocket-able size. It's a great start to my new hiking adventures.
