It’s shakespeare, and the arden shakespeare edition for that matter (which is the edition i have read), what on earth could I say that hasn’t been said by people far more knowledgeable then me. The introduction helped me understand the text far far more and appreciate the various eccentricities and view several characters (such as the duke) in such different ways, that and telling me of the various public reactions to it.
I am terrible at reading Shakespeare but I managed to follow the story of the play quite easily but the added contexts and the interpretations from experts definitely elevated the experience. Not my favourite play of his but an interesting read nonetheless from the politics to the discussions on sex/lust and gender and how they operate in society and the views surrounding them.
