Worst book I've ever read. Do yourself a favour and stay away from it.
Sometimes good stories are badly written, in others dull storylines are presented in beautiful prose. Here, neither is the case. The story is boring, characters are poorly developed, action is rushed (oh, that's a good thing, the end comes faster!), and the writing is terrible.
No, not even the sex makes up for it, because there's hardly a thing worth the name.
A boring TV night, alone in your pajamas, is better than this book.

This was my first Kitty Thomas book, but it certainly won't be the last. This is Dark Erotica done well. Dark Erotica should make the reader uncomfortable at some point, otherwise it doesn't really feel like Dark Erotica to me, and Ms Thomas delivers with this book.
Juliette is young, beautiful, virginal and also kinky, conflicted, and strong-minded. Christian is tall, dark, handsome and also terrifying, inhuman and sadistic. He loves hurting her, loves her pain and terror, and advises her from the start that he will kill her.
This is anything but your typical love story, and while I wouldn't call it a Happily Ever After, I will call it a Forever Ever After...

I loved this novel! It's pretty dark and fantasy driven but I liked it for that. There was some telling rather than showing in the writing at certain points, things got kind of listy in term of how they were portrayed and for a novel that's basically being bought for the sex scenes that might be a bit of a mistake. it could be said that it was written that way to show how Juliette's days were starting blur together but I'm not sure that was the point Kitty Thomas was trying to make. Her novels are pretty short and I think that The Last Girl is one that definitely could have been a bit longer. Still, that didn't take away from my enjoyment of the novel.

Interesting book...I would rank it a 3.5
There is definitely a darkness to this story. The mix of vampires, humans and bdsm. There is no reason anyone should like/love Christian and Juliette truly understands that this is an abusive "relationship" but she can't help herself. He is also manipulative but let's face it...he is supposed to be a vampire...no sparkling here.
As usual I won't do a recap here but anyone who is sensitive to any topics noted above should probably avoid this.

This was...different.
I am a big fan of Kitty Thomas' writing. Comfort Food is one of my all time favorite erotic/dark erotic books. So, I went into this one with high expectations. And though I still enjoyed her writing style, and the dark and twisty feel...I have to say this was a disappointment.
I loved the idea of a dominating hero who was a vampire. I loved the idea of him waiting 6 years to 'claim' her. However, I spent most of my time just not liking Christian at all. And it wasn't because he was an anti-hero (I have a weakness for them after all). The connection just wasn't there for me. And for the sake of full disclosure, I have to admit that part of my problem with the actual story was Also, the ending felt very rushed, though I had begun to warm up to Christian's character by then.
I have read a lot of dark erotica...so it wasn't like I went into this expecting hearts and flowers between the two main characters. After all, you can't get much darker than Comfort Food, and I loved every word of that book. But, I just wish there had been more emotion from Christian before the last few pages of the story.
Perhaps my expectations were too unrealistically high going into this. But, even though I was left feeling disappointed, I'm still a huge fan of this author's writing and will definitely read the rest of her work.

...Christian's need to take her virginity over and over...and over...again. I mean, he's a vampire, and he gets off on 'healing' her to the point where each time he has sex with her, she's intact? That aspect just really bothered me, for whatever reason.I have read a lot of dark erotica...so it wasn't like I went into this expecting hearts and flowers between the two main characters. I really thought this book was going to be better. But I should have listened more to the reviews. It was pretty bad. Not like "oh my gawd this is terrible" bad, more like "wow...this is just bad" bad. Does that make sense? It does to me.
I just didn't get into anything of this story at all. Worse, Juliette's thoughts and actions were extremely ridiculous. First of all. How the HELL did she figure out that Christian was a vampire literally right away? The only thing she'd seen so far was how fast he could move. How does that point to vampire and nothing else!? Then there's the fact that this chick has been kidnapped, forced to witness him screw a prostitute before killing her and dumping her body, while she herself has been treated like less than dirt and far below him as only his pet. Despite that, she immediately has fallen for the guy. This has gone waaaaaaay past stockholm syndrome because I think it was the first day. But it gets better. Even after Christian takes her to a vampire club where she is tied up, blind folded, and the vampires have their horrendous way with her...she still loves him. He even ties her up at home and repeatedly cuts open her back in haze of blood lust. Juliette still loves the guy. I mean. How is that possible? I get that people have their kinks, but he did not do a single thing that should have had her even liking him.
The ending was just stupid, and fair warning, I'm gonna spoil it without hiding it.
Juliette has fallen so hard for Christian and the brutality he subjected her to, that when he finally releases her because he can't stand the knowledge that he'll eventually kill her, she kills herself instead. She even times it out so that he shouldn't be able to save her. But he does. And now she's the one thing she was determined never to be and happy about it. I mean. I just don't get this girl!
