This book was really not good. It was a bunch of torturous cliches all shoved gracelessly together into one book with major "not like other girls" vibes. I don't think this could have been more painful than it was. Every second more that I read I questioned why I was reading it. I kept praying it would get better and it DID NOT. I have wanted to read this book for so long and I am so freaking disappointed. Don't get me wrong I knew it wouldn't be anything ground-breaking but I at least thought it would be fun and enjoyable. It was neither. I truly cannot see a single thing that people would actually like about this book so I really really strongly recommend you stay away from it.

Cookie cutter paranormal romance. I can definitely see how this originated from Wattpad. It feels like an above average wattpad story. This books has the worst case of insta-love I've ever seen. The characters are 2D, and I can't connect with them. The plot seemed unoriginal and predictable. I'm also just never in the mood to read this, even though I tell myself I'm enjoying it. I've picked up and abandoned this book 3 times. I feel no need to continue devoting my time to this story. If you're looking for a good paranormal romance book there are plenty of better ones out there.

well shit. i am not going to lie, Lailah confused me at first. as readers, we were pushed into her world with little backstory. but as the story moved forward little bits and pieces pushed together, creating a fantastic story. i love all the characters AND enjoyed the love triangle. there is nothing like a good old fashioned love triangle, my friends. team Jonah all the way, bitches.

Twilight, Fallen and Vampire Diaries fans rejoice. Here's a new one for you. If you like your female protagonist slightly masochistic or suicidal, an emotional train wreck and completely dependent on the male characters, you'll love it.

I didn't want to stop reading this book. It's unique, and a different take on the whole Angel/Demon thing.

I love all the suspense in this book. It seems like there is something new at every turn. The back story behind everything is great too. It's something I haven't read before, and I want to know more about. There is also a lot of self discovery among the different characters. The romance is what hooked me. I wanted to know where Cessie's affections lie. And the actions scenes were awesome. I like being able to picture fights as they happen, and Kelly made it so easy to do that in this book.

I had a hard time with Cessie at times. She's this girl that wants, and feels like she needs to do things on her own, but she spends so much time trying to decide who she likes, that she misses the bigger picture. She doesn't know much about herself, at all. She sees glimpses every once in a while, but it's hard for her to put the pieces together. I do like that she is loyal. She doesn't want anything bad to happen to these new friends she's made. That brings us to Jonah and Gabriel. There are so many good and bad things about each of them. You don't know who has Cessie's best interests at heart. I will say that I'm #TeamJonah. I don't think there's anything that could stop that.

I'm ready for the second book. I need it NOW, but alas, I have to wait forever!!!!! With a story as different as Lailah, I can't help but want more.

I received this book free through Goodreads First Reads.

Why did this book have to end? This book was amazing. It is different from all the other angel and vampire books that are out now. Cannot wait to read the next book in the series.

Loved the book however though Cessie/Lailah began to annoy me a little into the book but at the end I was astonished by it and can't wait to pick up the next book in the series.

I have two questions: what did I just read and why did I read it? If you're wondering why I've been reduced to questioning my life choices, let me introduce you to Lailah:

So, Lailah (or Francesca? I'm not even sure what to call her) cannot die or age. She doesn't know what she is or where she's from. Basically, she has the worst identity crisis ever. Throw a dark vampire and a model-esque angel to her already complicated life and you get:

A) A story that has been told time and time again

B) A terrible love triangle

C) Another Bella Swan

D) All of the above

If you answered D, then congratulations! You are now a proud member of the "Can I Burn This Book Now or Later" Club.

This Lailah/Francesca/Cessie-for-short character is one of those that I want to eradicate from the YA world. I might be a little biased here because I made up my mind about her by page nineteen. Why page nineteen, you ask? Because this girl, whom I'm told has lived many lives has NO SENSE OF SURVIVAL. Actually, maybe that's why she keeps dying. Fun fact: if you ever find yourself walking by the woods and you happen to come across an injured vampire, help him. Take him to your house (even though you live alone) and let him feed from you. That's the Lailah way. Ignore the fact that you have a horrible scar from a previous vampire encounter. Don't listen to that inner voice telling you that he's evil and he'll kill you if he gets the chance. No. Please go out of your way to practically put yourself in the most dangerous situation ever. Because that makes perfect sense, right? Honestly, I rolled my eyes so much at this character's lack of common sense that it'll take me weeks to stop doing that at 30 second intervals.

Terrible main character aside (I'm ignoring the love triangle on purpose because my sanity is more important than going down that road), the writing wasn't any better. It didn't flow at all because the transitions were awful. I was confused more times that I'm comfortable in admitting. Also, the author resorted to the most genetic characters I've read in a while. Lailah is plain, practical, and with no sense of style. Gabriel (the angel dude) looks like a model but he has a secret. Tuntuntunnnn. This makes me feel like I just read a retelling of a paranormal novel that I won't mention by name but we all love to hate. Unfortunately, my complains don't stop there. Now, I have to focus my attention on the setting. It was so dull that I almost cried. This is a huge shame because it takes place in a lot of great locations. I feel like the author didn't explore the surroundings at all. Instead, she left me feeling like the story could've taken place anywhere. Don't like Wales? Just think of a place and plant the terribly genetic characters there. It won't make a difference.

If you read this and you're still like "BUT SULKY VAMPIRES! AND HUNKY ANGELS! GIVE IT TO MEEEE" let me leave you with this: even my cat tried to eat it at one point. And I almost let him.
