Another bit of a story and this one seemed kind of thin. And repetitive. It also continues in the next volume. Generally I like stories to have tons of side characters. Tintin definitely has its share of side characters. Unfortunately the side characters all suck - even Snowy the dog isn't as interesting as at first. Everyone is a non funny buffoon. And the recurring sight gags wear thin. Still readable and the art is still fine. 2.5 of 5.

Mostly primer for #14 Prisoners of the Sun but entertaining nonetheless.

This story is absorbing right from the beginning. Everything in it lands for me. The most problematic aspect of it is that the entire plot hinges on grave-robbing colonialism, which is explicitly called out in one early frame, but not otherwise treated as a definitively bad thing. As I've said in my reviews of the other volumes, these kinds of issues are par for the course with Tintin.

Having said that, purely on the story level, I think this works really well. It's a lot of fun. It begins as more of a supernatural mystery, eventually turning into a well-paced chase after some kidnappers. The artwork is resplendent and as finely tuned as it always is. One of my favorites of the canon.
