I feel bad writing a negative review but just to share my opinion I got halfway through and decided to abandon. The writing was very stiff and light, which would be OK if the plot were gripping, but I found that plodding too. :(

Didn't appreciate how one character automatically assumed terrorism simply because the people had middle eastern names. Wasn't great, felt a bit empty.

Marina is an investigative journalist working for a man who has been investigating a Swiss bank hiding an exorbitant amount of American money. Annabel lives in Geneva with her husband Matthew, who works as a private banker for Swiss United. After some mysterious deaths, both women embark upon separate but similar quests to uncover secrets, and they both end up being pursued by people who will stop at nothing to make sure they remain silent about what they find. review: This book is a fast-paced twisty suspense novel that will keep you wanting more! This was my first book by Cristina Alger & she’s now on a list of authors to read. The writing was compelling and I loved that it was told in alternating perspectives of Marina and Annabel! rating: 4 out of 5 stars ⭐️

This was not the fast-paced thriller that I was as expecting after reading the blurb on the back. Two women find themselves alone in dangerous situations and they need to navigate the world of off shore accounts to stay alive.

This was the exact type of thriller I didn't know I needed. It was smart, but not hard to follow, had strong, reliable female narrators (Yaaasss!), and had twists that weren't crazy ridiculous and actually believable. If you've been put off by all of the psychological thrillers lately like I have been, give this financial thriller a try. It might surprise you like it did me. 4.5/5🌟

An enjoyable enough thriller which delves into the world of offshore accounts, money laundering, Swiss banks and their links to corruption and crime. Chapters alternate between the points of view of two women; Annabel whose expat life in Geneva is shattered when her banker husband is killed in a plane crash and Marina, a journalist about to marry into a very rich, US political family. But both women become linked when they discover the dark underbelly of what is involved in international finance. One issue I had was that Annabel and Marina were so similarly drawn character-wise, that I had to keep reminding myself whose story I was reading each time a new chapter started. Not edge of your pants stuff by any means but interesting enough to keep the pages turning. Good pool-side reading.

This was a fast-paced interesting read that was less mystery and more financial fraud investigation. I appreciated that the author made all of the banking details understandable for someone not in that field, but I definitely could have done without the story's tie-in to contemporary events in Syria, which felt superficially researched and quite patronizing.

"Here in Geneva, criminals can be your friends, and your friends can be criminals."
I wasn't sure how I was going to feel about The Banker's Wife. It's a thriller with some finance-related plotlines, which isn't really my thing, but DAMN was it exciting! I wasn't disappointed at all, and I absolutely loved this book. It's a creative story, and it's well-written.
You can't trust anyone, but both of the main characters are pretty cool. I really enjoyed read both Marina and Annabel's points of view, and someone else is thrown in later who I liked as well.
Honestly, I feel like this book deserved a better name. I'm afraid that some people are turned off my books with wife/girl/woman, etc. in the title, but this one is way more than your average thriller with a title like that.
This story was suspenseful, and I was genuinely nervous for the characters at times. I loved seeing how the story unraveled, and this book was so well done. I enjoyed this book the entire way through, and I can't wait to read more from Cristina Alger. Thank you so much to Putnam Books & GetRedPR for sending me a copy to review!
