A good beginning chapter book. Lots of picture support. A good book for transitional readers. Also good for younger advanced readers.

Such a sweet first chapter book! Lovely friendship story for those kids transitioning to chapter books. Illustrations (brown-toned) ease that transition.

This was a cute book that I would recommend if you ever have to teach kids reading skills (as I am now). I was a bit confused for a while as to who was Marvin and who was James. I like how the ending focused and Marvin's feelings and discussed the concept of missing someone in a digestible and clear manner.

Read this with my 6-year-old son. Sweet but pretty boring. We've moved on to the Bad Kitty series which is definitely more our speed.

It was okay I guess. Kinda boring. Elaine was a pretty flat character whose "personality" only consisted of female and annoying. (I used "female" as a personality trait here because a pink bow is the only way to distinguish her in the illustrations from Marvin aside from some tears)
I guess the writer here was trying to make the story "short 'n sweet", a cute little story about a distraught bug for kids. But really over all failed except to bring up a few interesting topics. Several times in and on the cover of this book is the word "adventure", but this story really didn't feel like one. I wanted this story to be cute and enjoyable but it really bored me.
The book is easy to read, which is great, but it's also really easy to skim. I could get the entire context of the book, and make it more enjoyable, if I just looked at the pictures.
This is my first time writing a real negative review about a book and I feel bad that it had to be such an innocent looking one.
