An excellent spooky page turner!

If you enjoyed 'the woman in black' or other ghost/horror books or films, I definitely recommend this.

I really enjoyed 'The House on Cold Hill' as it wasn't a typically predictable ghost story, and it really draws you into it from the first chapter. The book isn't too long either so I easily read it over two evenings.

The book was great, to begin with, you could tell the author had done thorough research into old houses and such. However, as the book progressed it became boring and predictable. The occurrences were minimum and it could hardly be called a ghost story.
Kinda Spoilers ahead:
The ending was terrible, it didn't explain much and saying as little as I can to not give away the ending, it didn't suit the book at all.
I would only recommend it if you have it and have it and only need something to fill your time. Peter James is not an author I will be returning to.

It's just not good. The writing is sloppy, the excessive use of exclamation marks was just frustrating. It wasn't remotely 'spooky.'

I've just started watching American Horror Story and this books just feels like a rip off of the first season.

After being told this book was an amazing little horror novel, I was surprised with how many issues I found with it. The dialogue and the characters' thought processes seemed a good part of the time to sound unrealistic to me, and the modernity of the time it's set in is almost distracting in the way it's presented, with so much of the book revolving around Facetime or a computer or a phone.

I also felt suspense was poorly executed for a great majority of the book, which is probably the biggest sour point for me. The former problems can be overlooked but if I'm not gripped by what I'm reading, I won't enjoy it as the horror story it was meant to be. Two stars if only because I enjoyed some of the concepts approached regarding time confusing itself, but really disappointed in this one.

Great book. I was a bit dubious about it with Peter James writing crime novels, but I have found it really hard to put down. A very good ghost story.
