Started this book at a bird refuge. I love terrys writing because it is thoughtfully woven and is personal. She writes of depth death and pain and light and though it was magic at moments, I stepped away from it slogging..  probably influenced by my own straying from mental and physical health.. heartbreak.. winter.. etc

terry clearly has a deep sense of place and finds haven in her motherly figures. Made me reflect upon my own connections.. and how death will change that.

I think this is a great book for someone struggling with the death of an elder

“It is our nature to survive, to create works of beauty, to be resourceful, to be attentive to the world we live in.”
Applauding at the sun shimmering above the lake..
The peace of wild things:…
“I rest in the grave of the world, and am free” (Wendell berry, pg 215)
