A cyclops living in Central Park watches over a herd of eighteen sheep. When he wakes up one morning to find a sheep missing, he explores the city to rescue the sheep...all the while facing his fears of new experiences.

Wow. Way to much going on...a picture book retelling of Polyphemus; a tourist highlight of New York City; and a last-minute focus on fears and trying new things. The illustrations are nice...but they can't make up for the lack of streamlined storytelling.

It's sort of cute. Perhaps good for sharing with a kid before a trip to NYC.

A cute story, with a good moral, but very much geared to those who live in New York.

This is a wonderful story from one of our favorite local authors, about the Cyclops of Central Park, who spends his days herding his sheep and staying in his comfortable little box away from the big city, thank you very much. That is, until his troublemaking sheep Eugene escapes, and Cyclops has to face his fears of the unknown to bring him home. We follow Cyclops as Eugene leads him on a merry tour of New York City from Yankees Stadium to Coney Island, and we discover that maybe new things aren’t so scary after all. I love this book and its delightful story and its absolutely jaw-dropping illustrations!
