It's hard to figure out what's really going on here. There are love letters, bitch rants (on various topics ranging from sports and rotary clubs to phobias, nationalism and collectivism) that I wasn't really all that into (I like my erotica and philosophy to be separate ever since [b:Emmanuelle|118797|Emmanuelle|Emmanuelle Arsan|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1347392457s/118797.jpg|1275165]) and a surreal love triangle between husband, wife and son. Llosa must have had a lot of fun writing this. Read this if you like Klimt and Schiele or if your last erotica was Fifty Shades of Grey. (No really, the erotica here is creative and wonderful and the foursome made me awww. When was the last time a foursome made you aww?) Density of prose may be annoying (was for me) but it's quality prose too so if you can get behind that you're good to go.

I almost gave up on this one--a few times. And I may be guilty of some skimming but this one really fed off of "In Praise of the Stepmother," in a delicious way.

Glad to be done with it though...

That's the continuation of the novel "Praise of the Stepmother" where we find the same characters. Don Rigoberto and Dona Lucrecia are separated, although they still love each other. Don Rigoberto brings Dona Lucrecia back to life through her fantasies. Fonchito visits his stepmother and orchestrates a cunning plan to reconcile the two lovers. It is often a question of biographical elements on the painter Egon Schiele and his painting, to which Fonchito dedicates an obsessive cult.
The chapters dedicated to history and to the painter Egon Schiele alternate with those devoted to Don Rigoberto's fantasies and those where Vargas Llosa gives us, in the form of short essays, his vision of freedom, love, and sexuality. He criticizes the current mass society, which enslaves the individual, including his sexuality. It chastises pornography, the fashion for sex toys, orgies, sex without imagination, the imperatives of enjoyment, the concentration on the genitals at the expense of eroticism, and the wealth deployed by the revelation of the multiple erogenous zones of the wife's body. He defends an individualistic, creative, imaginative, joyful, healthy vision of life, love, and sexuality.
This alternation of chapters on various themes at the expense of the romantic plot requires a concentrated, patient, and sometimes a little intellectual reading.
This is a book to read only if you have read "Praise of the Stepmother" beforehand to understand this sequel, but also because the attachment to the characters helps to maintain curiosity.

هذه الرواية هي الجزء الثاني من رواية إمتداح الخالة الأحداث متصلة و مكملة لإمتداح الخالة حيث ما إن تنتهي أحداث الأولي تبدأ أحداث الرواية الثانية حيث توقفنا في الأخيرة مباشرةً و تعرض لنا الفترة التي كان فيها دون ريغوبيرتو و لوكريثيا منفصلين و كل الأحداث الشيقة التي حدثت في هذه الفترة إلي النهاية الكبري أخيرًا
لماذا خمسة نجوم؟
الأسلوب عبقري الكاتب إجتهد في تقديم محتوي رائع لم يستخف بعقلية القارئ بل قدم له رواية دسمة أدبيًا و هي تعتبر الأدسم فيما قرأت حتي الآن يظهر لنا في الرواية سعة معرفة الكاتب و إذا لم تكن هذه سعة معرفة من الكاتب فلا يكفي قراءة مئة كتاب لتقديم محتوي قيم و دسم بهذا الشكل في 382 صفحة فقط
كل فصل في الرواية مكون من مشهدين و خطابين تقريبًا
المشهد الأول في أغلب الوقت يجمع لوكريثيا و فونتشيتو حيث يذهب لها الطفل بعد المدرسة يوميًا ليقضي بعض الساعات معها و يخبرها عن حياة إيغون شيلي رسام إيروتكي عاش بفيينا - حقيقي - و سيتم سرد أجزاء كبيرة جدًا من قصة حياته في هذه الرواية ولكي تستمتع بها يجب أن تطلع لكل لوحات إيغون شيلي قبل أن تقرأها لكي تكون فكرة مسبقة عما سيتم وصفه أمامك من لوحات
المشهد التاني يكون مشهد من خيال دون ريغوبيرتو حيث يشارك هو و زوجته في مشهد إيروتكي أو زوجته بمفردها مع أشخاص أخرين
الخطاب الأول و الذي يكون في الغالب بين المشهد الأول و الثاني يكون دائمًا دسم جدًا حيث يعرض دون ريغوبيرتو وجهة نظره و ايدولوجيته و اعتقاداته في أمور معينة منها علي سبيل المثال و ليس الحصر رؤيته لفكرة النوادي الإجتماعية أو الرياضيين أو جمعيات الرفق بالحيوان أو خطاب لمعلمة تم القبض عليها لتهمة إغتصاب طفل قاصر ذو عشر سنوات !!!
الخطاب الثاني يعرض مشهد خيالي مرسل من دون ريغوبيرتو إلي لوكريثيا أو من لوكريثيا لدون ريغوبيرتو و يكون خفيف دائمًا و بسيط جدًا و لا يتعدي الصفحتان
أود لو أضيف أيضًا ان شخصية دون ريغوبيرتو هي اكثر الشخصيات التي إستطاع كاتبها أن يجلبها للحياة و بقوة حيث أنه سيظل بمخيلتي إلي الأبد كشخص حي في مدينة ليما بدولة البيرو و ليس كشخصية من رواية للرائع ماريو فارغاس يوسا..
