This book was a mixed bag for me. To be honest I would have DNF'd it if I hadn't listened to the audiobook in its entirety during setup for an experiment I had on campus.

I have to say that I really liked Angel as a character. I loved her relationship with her community and her son. I loved her passion for her work. The only thing she did that I found questionable was remaining with the Duke. Otherwise she was a very well written and moving character.

I didn't like the Duke or Angel's relationship with the Duke. He makes all the wrong choices in terms of how he treats Angel. He absolutely has an alcohol issue he refuses to fully own up to and his sense of ethics and morals is very flawed. He may have made the right decision in the end, but there wasn't any evidence as to why he would change. It seemed abrupt and without real cause.

In addition I sort of felt like there was too much going on. There was sexual harassment at work, Angel's child struggling with severe asthma, the Duke's drinking, blackmailing, a backstabbing and vindictive Ex. I think if the plot had been simplified a bit or the Duke had begun to assess his actions and change a little more slowly. To sort of top off the whole situation I felt like the epilog jumped way to far for the amount of time between its start and the end of the book.
