Jeff Lemire continues the story of six superheroes who've been trapped in a small town for ten years. They are joined by the daughter of their eponymous, dead comrade, who begins to shake them out of their hopeless complacency. But there is clearly more going on than Madame Dragonfly and Colonel Weird are letting on...

Strong follow-up to the Black Hammer debut. The Event expands the universe and explains the odd predicament of the protagonists more thoroughly. Great writing, fun nods to superhero comics, and fantastic art.

There is so much mystery and intrigue in this series already and so much happens. The back story dips into Golden Age type heroes and shows of the events that led them to be stuck on the farm without letting us know why yet. There is plenty more about Black Hammer too and his conflicting commitments to his family and his powers.
There's also a pseudo-Watchmen feel to it with many of our heroes aging and looking to keep going/get out of the hero game.
So much brilliance in here and so much to look forward to too.

I don't know what to say about it and i don't want to over-think it but i just love it.
EDIT: Re-read. Still the best thing since cheesy poofs.

Frustrating. Going round in circles. No decent resolutions. Not wasting any more time on this.

Jeff Lemire continues his masterful deconstruction of superhero tropes. This is a character driven story that shows the dark side of heroism. The mystery of how and why the heroes are stranded in their isolated village is still not answered, but the clues continue to mount. The origin and fate of Black Hammer provides a poignant and inspiring foundation for this arc, as his daughter searches for answers to what happened to him and the other heroes. The artwork pays tribute to the kind of old-time comic book artwork that these characters are emulating. This is a fully realized universe with interesting characters and situations.
Note: I read this as individual comic book issues.

Volume 2 really picked up the pace and I'm really enjoying the story. Sadly, it ends on a cliffhanger and I'm seeing the next issue isn't out for a while.
