look. the writing is not my cup of tea. the pacing, the introduction to the world building and to the characters are imperfect. but the characters took my breath away and I haven't been able to think about anything else since. I had to order the rest of the books immediately and I can't wait to receive them. I literally cannot wait. my brain is broken, send help.
I already know this story is gonna be something extraordinary

This book was very good and I loved it. Sometimes though, the translation seemed off and some sentences did seem to not make complete sense. But overall, I really liked reading it and after putting it off for half a month, I was right back and could follow along where I had left off.
I love MXTX's writing style, it does feel unique, though it looks like it is sometimes too much telling the story instead of showing it, but luckily it doesn't put me off. 
Loved reading this novel after waiting a long time!

I'm reading this series about a year after watching the Netflix show (twice) and as much as was on YouTube for free (legally, I promise) as I could.

When I tell you I love WangXian. If I could live in this world and just watch them interact forever, I'd die happy.

But anyway, I am very invested in seeing the source material of the show I love so much, not only seeing scenes that already have a visual map in my head, but to see what was changed and how the story was actually told timeline-wise. In the show, we saw all of the past at once. In the book, we get flashbacks, and not going to lie, I'm a sucker for flashbacks.

Furthermore, I'm obsessed with seeing more of just how much Lan Wangji secretly (unless under the influence) loves Wei Wuxian because we couldn't get that conspicuously in the show. MXTX is a great storyteller, and kudos to the translator!

So far it's an intriguing story filled with mysteries and unknowns. The main characters Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji are on opposite ends of the character trait spectrum, which makes their interactions quite fun.

The cultivation is something new for me but the execution of it and worldbuilding in the story are compelling. What is difficult to follow at times is the usage of multiple names for the same character, so it can be hard to keep up with who is who and who is related to who. This is generally not too big of an issue since the book contains a glossary with characters and unacquainted vocabulary and concepts.

The text itself, especially the spoken conversations, feel a bit stiff and unnatural for an English reader. I presume this to be a peculiarity of the Chinese language and how it gets translated. While it can be a bit jarring at times you get used to it fast that it doesn't take you out of the reading experience.
