Trudged through this book to try to see what other people saw in it and never found it. Going into the book as a nonbinary person I was really looking forward to the gender commentary it receives praise for but I found it very lackluster. I feel like its major themes are of writing, nature, and aristocracy more so than gender. It was all in all very boring as well and I found myself thinking "okay, let's wrap up this thought now" over and over, but that probably just means the stream of consciousness style just isn't for me. Ultimately it was a miss 🤷

This book is beautifully written and full of insightful lines and trains of thought. However I also listen to it basically all in one sitting at work and I don't think that is the best way to experience this book, it started to feel tedious and repetitive.

A lot of decent passages though very weak on plot, plus a fair bit of racism

I liked this writing style more in theory than in practice I think

I have struggled to get through Woolf before due to her writing style and overall lack of plot of her works. However, Orlando is the first Woolf book that these things have really come together well for me. Her prose is gorgeous, my favourite extract has to be
the childbirth scene

While the writing is gorgeous and it is an incredible character study, the casual racism cannot be ignored.
