Hiding Baby Moses by Judith Roth and Melanie Cataldo is a sweet story about Moses. The love his sister has for him and how she is pivotal in saving Moses life. I wish the song was recorded or add online to add texture to the story. I also wish we knew why Moses had to be hidden so the true miracle could be celebrated more in the book. I’m thinking from a child POV rather than adult. I did enjoy the book though.

This picture book retells a classic Bible story with faithfulness and accuracy, has beautiful, ethnically accurate illustrations, and includes an original song. I am very impressed with it, and am glad that I had the chance to read an advance copy. This would be great for families and libraries, and is a wonderful resource for churches, since the author imagines Miriam's point of view without altering the details of the story or inserting historically inaccurate elements. This is a very powerful presentation of a traditional story, and emphasizes women's wisdom and courage alongside God's protection.

I received a temporary digital copy through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Hiding Baby Moses is a beautiful Biblically based picture book. The narrator is Moses' unnamed older sibling who describes what it was like to hid the baby from Pharaoh's soldiers who were in search of and killing newborn baby boys.
This is a simple story for primary school children to hear the story of Moses from a differing point of view than how it is usually told. The author takes some liberties adding dialogue which of course was not recorded in the Bible.

This was a cute story of Moses' origin story, fairly true to the text from the Hebrew Bible. It painted the characters in a good light, helped children understand how those characters would have been feeling during the story, and is heartwarming. The artwork was well done and really added a lot. My 3 and 6 year old children really enjoyed it, and even though they are already somewhat familiar with the Passover story it added something for them. My only issue was that it seemed a bit geared towards the Christian audience. Jews don't write the name of G-d out, and also it called it out as being from the Old Testament on the back cover. Thank you to Flyaway Books and Netgalley for the advanced copy of the book!
