I liked this book. Great starter book for getting into the classics.

This is why I like reading classic books - I always end them with this great, upbeat, happy feeling. Maybe Eight Cousins isn't exactly literary caviar, but it's at least the equivalent to ...uh... a literary green smoothie? Something that tastes delicious, is enjoyable, but is also good for you. Yep. Loved this book.

For those unfamiliar with Alcott's background, Eight Cousins is probably the most obvious "propaganda" for the Transcendentalist movement's thoughts on raising children, particularly young women. It is incredibly unsubtle in hammering home its message.
As a child in a large family, I enjoyed watching Rose adjust to life with her boisterous boy cousins.
As an adult, I cheer as she is given license to embrace childhood, but I squirm a bit as she's put a position of moral superiority and trained on how to be the perfect housewife.

Louisa May Alcott is, by far, my favorite author! I fell in love with Little Women when I was 13 but no one ever told me she had written any other books. Now, eight years later, I have discovered Ms. Alcott's other works. 'Eight Cousins' is the first book I have read of hers beyond Little Women, and I have to say that I absolutely love it! The characters were delightful and the setting was very interesting. As I was reading, I kept imagining myself reading this book with my future children.
