My husband bought me this book on his birthday. He knew how much V. C. Andrews means to me because my late mother read them all the time and it was nostalgic.

This book was surprisingly good. I didn't think much of it when I picked it up, only that I had the urge to read one of VC Andrews's books. But a few chapters in and I was really invested.
The main character was great to read about. She was smart, kind, and I loved hearing her thoughts. I had some ideas about how the story was about to go but it was entirely different than I expected. The plot twist truly shocked me. I didn't expect that at all.
It was interesting to read about her life and views about being an orphan. The way she had to depend solely on herself, and what it's like to move in with a new family. It can be so scary to try to navigate a new house, a new family, a new life. To learn about their odd quirks and whatnot.
I didn't want this book to end, and I wish I have the other 3 books in the series. It would be nice to read about the other girls.

I don't usually write reviews but this one I feel I have to.
I was so happy to have found this book as I remember getting a free copy of this book with a magazine when I was about thirteen. So twenty years ago! I have been trying to find it again for years. As you can tell I found it!
Now the book itself had some interesting themes. I wish it had gone further with Thelma's soap opera obsession. That was the part I really remembered from reading it years ago.
Either way i'm no longer the intended audience for this book but finding it again was so nice. A lovely piece of nostalgia.

When I read these novels back in the day I would have given them 3-3.5 STARS and now would say about one Star
I started reading VC Andrews books in the 1991 and stopped about 2003.
I have read:
-Dollanganger Series
-Casteel Series
-Cutler Series
-Landry Series
-Logan Series
-Orphans Series
-Wildflowers Series
-Hudson Series
-Shooting Stars Series
-DeBeers Series
-Broken Wings Series
As a preteen reading these novels was a rebellion and the gothic theme also seemed cool. I stopped reading this author because the novelty wore off, the novels are too formulaic that I could not tell one book from another and gothic aspect was lost.
