Oh, this was silly. Beauty and the Beast is my favorite story, my favorite Disney movie. Belle is my favorite and I just love the Beast. I bought this book several years ago, but I just never got around to reading it. I think I was spending too much time in the world of Disney. Finally I pulled this off my shelf as a palate cleanser in between books.

For a young reader book, I suppose this story is okay. It is a different take on the story and the history of the Beast. It explains some of his past and how he came to be mean enough to be cursed. I wish the book had gone into more detail and given more examples. But for a young reader this is a sweet story.

This is the second tale I've read from the Twisted Tales series - the other being Poor Unfortunate Souls - and it's safe to say, it's going to be the last. I did enjoy this book more than Poor Unfortunate Souls, but that isn't particuarly a compliment given how awful Poor Unfortunate Souls was. I've tried to judge the book fairly and take into account that its target audience is children, but there's no escaping the fact that the books in this series are just plain bad.

The Beast Within is an almost exact re-telling of the original Disney's Beauty and the Beast but from the Beast's POV. The only real changes are the flashbacks that show how he came to be cursed and a nonsensical and shallow friendship with Gaston. It was a quick and easy read but very predictable and meaningless. It's a shame really because there was so much potential, but none of it was realised. There seems to have been little time, thought or effort put into creating or writing the story and consequently, the reader experience is hollow.

I'm a huge Beauty and the Beast fan, have always been, I once spent 24 hours straight watching the videotape on repeat when I was grieving, so this story is very, very special to me.
I'm not quite sure how I feel about the book though. I did quite enjoy it, definitely enjoyed it more than the Ursula book, but less than the Evil Queen one.

* Mild spoilers ahead *
I didn't like a couple of features the author gave to beast's origin story, like wth would beast be friends with Gaston, I get a Pride and Prejudice node, but still. I did enjoy the previous girlfriends stories and the way the Beast is shown to be a really disgusting and abusive with Tulip, especially, so it was a nice addition.
At times it felt like I was reading a fan fiction, even though I've never read a single one, lol, but in general it was pretty okay. I hope the next installments won't disappoint!

Beauty and the beast is my all time favourite disney story and movie and i loved finding out how beast really felt for belle and what he felt like towards other characters as you didnt see that often when seeing the main story.

Most of this book was like a flash back as we saw how the beast was before the spell and after. Because of the spell we also got to see the fairy sisters pints of view who were the ones who casted the spell on beast. we saw how they tried to sabotage belle falling in love with the beast aka the famous wolve scene.

This is a 4 star rating for me as there wasnt enough interactions between belle and beast for me to give it a solid 5 stars
