I enjoyed this middle-grade mystery which reimagined a young Arthur Conan Doyle. The plot was engaging and the characters were well-developed. I wish it had stayed in reality and not dipped into fantasy, mostly for selfish reasons like where to add it to my genrefied library. "Perhaps this book could inspire students to read Sherlock Holmes!"

Loved this book! It’s an alternate Origin Story of Arthur Conan Doyle who wrote Sherlock Holmes. Very creative idea.

Having lately watched a show called “Big Little Lies” my #1 complaint was that I didn’t like any of the characters. The mystery wasn’t enough to make it a good series (for me). So the fact that I picked this up next and enjoyed it for the VERY THING I’d wanted—loveable characters AND plot—is pretty cool.

It’s not a 5/5 because the prose will knock your socks off or the story’s never been done. It’s 5/5 because it’s a solid story and I can see anything it lacks and I’d read it again. I’m disappointed that book 2 isn’t out yet!
