3.0

This book has a fascinating structure, some really beautiful imagery and some striking set pieces, but it's also an overlong slog and a lot of it felt off putting. It somehow both feels timeless and extremely dated. I can definitely see the influence on other books that I've enjoyed. I'm glad I read it but I don't think I'd ever read it again.

1.25

maybe i don't "get" it. but what's worse is that im not interested in "getting" it.

nothing i liked or found compelling is enough for me to raise this past 1.25 stars. the circular text and the reveal of the notebook was an interesting choice. but those parts were drowned out by the endless droning of the MC. and the endless sex. and the endless endlessness of the narrative and prose and oh my god this is a circular text which means it technically never ends.
