While I enjoyed this book.....art history meets mystery and love story....I was so distracted by how poorly the characters were written I couldn't enjoy it as much as I wanted to. The "romance" never explains itself...why are these two people attracted to each other? They go from zero to love in 2.5 seconds. It's weird.

I would only give it 2.5, but I can't do that so 3 it is.

art history mystery niche is what I was craving and that’s what I got. didn’t love the romance subplot but liked how it ended? overall,  satisfied and art nerds will enjoy :) technique parts were very interesting.

Meh. Weak story, but the factual parts and of the book were really interesting. And I love Degas.

Even though there were moments when I wanted to shake Claire, I found this readable and interesting. The painting techniques get a little detailed, but set a good scene, and I really appreciated the theme of folks, even experts, seeing what they want to see.

I thought the author did a decent job of twisting her fictions around the facts, and the historical references made me want to find a good biography of Degas as well as of Isabella Stewart Gardner and the various forgers.

The flashback style wasn’t my favorite here, going back to both Claire’s explosive affair with an art professor as well as rather vapory letters from Gardner.
