Basically ordered this because I was faced with a long travel day and the ending of my Kindle Unlimited subscription. Pretty sure it wasn't just the jet lag that kept me up to finish it, though -- I wanted to know how it ended. The main character was more than a little annoying and I detest the gay-best-friend trope, but I'd say this is worth 3.5 stars. The descriptions of the artwork, the 'scandalous' nature of the museum's benefactor, the bits of history thrown in, and the simple questions as to how it would all get wrapped up make this worth a read.

I enjoyed the art history, painting techniques, and research. The protagonist and narrative voice were insufferable and aggravating.
Clare needs to drink more water and take iron supplements with how often she nearly faints or can’t speak due to nerves.

An entertaining enough book. There’s not a lot of background to the main character, Claire, outside of the art world. The big mystery of how she became ostracized in the art world and the ending were both a little eye rolling worthy but I went along with it and found the book to be just good enough.
