The more I think about this
book the less sure I am about my feelings on it. I gave 3 ⭐️ because I'm still so mixed up about it.
I think my favourite thing about the book was how much you get to know each character. I really enjoyed being let into the lives of the characters and getting to understand their feelings and motivations on a more intimate level. I also felt this book very successfully incorporated things like transcripts of podcast episodes and email threads, which is something that can be very hard to pull off. I also sort of liked and sort of didn't like how you could argue that this is a book where not much really happens - there is a suspenseful build up to an event that ends up going pretty normally, and as a reader you sort of forget about it by the time you do actually get the pay out at the very end of the book.
That said, I found myself wondering when I finished the book what the point of it was, and I still haven't answered that question for myself. I also both liked and didn't like that the most mysterious, metaphysical aspects of the book get almost 0 exploration on the page. On the one hand, it adds to the allure of the unknowable; on the other hand, it's frustrating!
Overall, I think this book is interesting and has lots of elements that make it a worthwhile read. Think of it like a semi-suspenseful slice of life.
