Enemies to lovers trope with some really funny moments. The female lead, as in the author's previous books, is a woman in STEM, which could be admirable, but the author continues to make these women much smaller in stature than their male counterparts and with some weakness in their character. The male lead, again, is seemingly perfect, in his job, in most of his family relationships, and in helping the female lead get over her issues. The romance was ultimately sweet but seemed to accelerate quickly without much development.

Elsie needs work. Lord does she need work. I love Jack - he’s such a supportive love interest. Definitely not a solid representation of academia but has some good parts too. The audiobook is really good. I love the narrator - she does a great job.

Listen, is the love interest freakishly large and financially secure and the main character petite and penurious and the setting scientific? You know the answers, however…Elsie’s pathological people pleasing, how her mentor’s ARCH ENEMY sees right through it, the academic feuding (inspired by a true story), her hilarious inner monologue, his YEARNING, the diabetes and ace and demisexuality rep, can we hear it. FOR. THE. STEAM., THE STEAM, PEOPLE! I couldn’t put it down. This is my favorite Ali Hazelwood yet!

The best of Hazelwood's STEMinist novels, LOVE THEORETICALLY follows adjunct physics professor Elsie as she navigates the consequences of her faking-dating-for-hire scheme...primarily that the older brother of a client she's come to love not only turns out to be a physicist in a competing specialty, but also happens to be part of the team that could hire her for a tenure-track position at MIT.  This novel is tender-hearted, sexy, and extremely funny.  Perfect for reader's with eldest-daughter-syndrome...or for those known to bend over backwards for others.  Follow along as Elsie learns to ask for what she wants–it's a joy to read.
