I don't know what it is, but I just couldn't make myself get through this book. I think it's partially because from the beginning I felt like the writing was a little stuffy. But it could also just be that I was in a grumpy mood when I opened it. Either way it just wasn't happening.

I swear I wrote a review for this book awhile ago - but in my defense, I do have a newborn so it may have slipped my mind. Darn it all, I hate inaccurately remembering things - but I did enjoy this story. Poop. That's the best of my reviews at the moment. *sigh*

I am a huge Sabrina Jeffries fan. Her stories are fast paced and the characters are awesome. Alec was super hot and very determined, not just to get the girl but to save everyone as well. Kathrine was spunky and innocent and charming. I cannot wait to read the next book.

This title was misleading... but that can be easily ignored. I really enjoyed the storyline, but it was rather predictable for the most part. I can't complain too much though, because I could barely put this book down anyways. I loved that Katherine was such a strong female character despite the time period and Alec was very amusing. I will say I'm hoping it works out for Sydney in the end, too. All in all, this was a good diversion sort of book; I'm curious to see what will happen in the rest of the series.

Maybe its just early Jeffries writing style, but I did not love this book.
It felt sloppy and repetitive. The thought processes of both lead characters made zero sense to me. They were either lying or convincing themselves of some crazy idea to not do something or to lie about something else. It was a ride. Also the editing was rough in this book. I probably just have an old copy of it but still.
I enjoyed Alec enough. Katherine was fine as well. I don't know the point of Sydney at all. Like his role in Katherine's life was significant but he was just cut out like nothing when the time came. Just felt so weird and wrong. He also felt just inserted to say "hey look at me, LGBTQIA+ representation here! Look at me being diverse", which did not like. We deserve better than that. ALSO, Katherine's mom is THE WORST. Like absolute worst. I have no love for that woman and I don't know how Katherine does.
I'm probably being too harsh on an early 2000s book. I do love Sabrina Jeffries' writing (Lachlan is one of my favorite male leads), this one just isn't it for me.

I really enjoyed this, especially as the first book in a series. I loved both Katherine and Alec, and I'm interested to see what's going to happen to some of the side characters in the rest of the series.

Not my favorite Sabrina Jeffries. Alex and Katherine are likable enough on their own. The deception just went on too long for my taste.
