Normally I have a problem with books written in this style (Alternating stories with one being the story of her climbing Everest, and the other the story of her growing up.) Usually I find one story more compelling than the other, and just skim through the other one to get to the "good" part. Both stories were as interesting, compelling, and well-written as the other. This was a hard book to put down.

Almost had to stop reading. The author repeatedly refers to someone who uses they/them pronouns as a woman and girl, with no indication that person is okay being described that way (plus multiple comments about how weird and hard they/them pronouns are)

I thought listening to the audiobook was better than reading. Overall, this was a story of overcoming to accomplish your goals. It was a sad story with a happy ending. At times it was difficult to get through but I think it was really powerful showing that no matter what happens you can persevere and accomplish your goals and make a comeback. This wasn’t really much of a story about climbing Everest. It was more a story about overcoming the much more difficult everyday challenges women face.

I’m torn because I thought the pacing of this was so good I wanted to keep reading but I also felt like parts were missing and I didn’t fully understand where the author was coming from.

I am also absolutely terrified of Everest now
