This is a fun story about a girl named Azar, who has damaged vocal chords from cholic-related screaming as a baby, but who loves music and dreams of singing. She's half Italian, a quarter Argentinean, and a quarter Iranian, and all of her cultures are shown love and respect in this story, as well as illustrating where she doesn't feel quite "enough." Although this is a companion to "Perfectly Parvin", this is fully enjoyable on its own without knowing anything else.

This book was good! I loved the relationship between the MC and her love interest, especially as the love interest broke some typical stereotypes. Also I'm just a sucker for books about music in general, so I knew this would be good.

 - I picked up AZAR ON FIRE on a whim from my library and I'm so glad I did. I think this might be one of my favorite YA books of all time. Azar is a great protagonist: driven, smart, sharp, and a little bitter. The friends she gathers around herself are equally wonderful, both fighting their own battles and helping Azar through hers.
- This book perfectly captures the pressures and awkwardness of high school - I went to school in the same place this book is set and WHEW there were some flashbacks!
- I'm not disabled or chronically ill so I'm not the final word here, but I liked how Azar and her family were constantly trying to find the balance between fixing Azar's condition and simply learning to live with it, and how neither route seemed like the perfect answer.
- Plus, this book's characters are effortlessly diverse in terms of race, religion, class, and queerness. We love surprise asexual spectrum rep!
