This book started off really well for me and I was enjoying the way the author was slowly building the storyline and characters. Until about 2/3’s of the way in and it just felt rushed- honestly I wish the book could have been either longer or a series. That way we could have continued our slow path towards a satisfying conclusion.

A slowburn eco-novel spanning multiple timelines & genres. Blending folklore, sci-fi and post-apocolyptic fiction masterfully with an ending that ties the three narratives in ways you can't predict.

With so much imagination showcased in this novel, you’d think the author would be able to imagine a world where humans thrive after capitalism.

Is the author an anarchist? I’m going to guess he calls himself an anarcho-communist, so...anarchist.

There’s something lacking about the characters (the word that comes to mind to describe them is “deflated”) but the story is so rich that it kinda-sorta makes up for that lack.

The end part straight up turns into a video game, which is a huge departure from the rest of the book. It’s weaker, but I can see why he wanted to add it (he clearly wants to use the story to philosophize. Noble goal but it falls flat imo)

I feel like the ending was written first and probably should have been rewritten after the rest of the book was done bc it feels like a totally different book. Disjointed.
