I read this as part of the Dymocks challenge as the ‘kids top 51’ book that I had in my bookshelf, a gift from a year ago. This book I finished within hours and was surprised at how good it was, considering my preferred genres are fiction and young adult. But for a non-fiction book, it was excellent, moving, shocking and moved to tears in parts, which is why I had to give it 5 stars. I learnt and appreciated many things; The ages - some of the women were my age or younger when they achieved their great accomplishments. Some are only even a few years older than me and the events happened while I was alive. Some were very old, showing age is no limiting factor. The women were well researched, from all over the world, and very strong. I was moved by many of the quotes and stories. The pictures were beautiful (adding to the wonder of the book) and all illustrated by women from all over the globe. I took most interest in the naturalists (Jane Goodall), the archaeologists (Maria Reiche) and the other environmental activists as this is career I want for myself! This is an inspiring and motivational book and I learnt about women i’ve never heard of before (who deserve to be well known), and I learnt more about women who I have already heard of. I also noticed that these women were not the only ones achieving what they did, most of them had help and lots of support which shows that people need to work together to make the world better. It was a very interesting and easy read. It should be read by everyone. Read on 21st of Jan.
