This was a fascinating story of an historical period I was not aware of which shows the complexities of war and the impact of war on civilians.

Ich dachte eigentlich, nach "The Seven Moons of Maali Almeida" wüsste ich schon ein bisschen was über Sri Lanka in den 1980ern, aber ich bin vergesslich und hier ist sowieso alles noch mal ganz anders.

An unflinching look into a young girl coming of age during the Sri Lankan Civil War.

There were times where the writing style flowed beautifully, and there were other times where transitions felt abrupt. I understand why the chapters were formatted the way they were, but ultimately feel like the information and events of the book needed room to process and breathe. The ending also felt relatively abrupt.

However, I had a harder time reading fiction this month, so it's possible that on a second-read, my reading experience may be vastly different.
