This was a very good story about how it is NEVER to late to change. I didn't realize that it was YA until about halfway through. Also I had thought it was about mermaids, but it is not. It is more about ghosts. Great story though.

It's a nice witchy slow-read. It's a supernatural murder mystery, but I wouldn't call it a thriller. I would call it a cozy read... except for all the murder. But i would say it's a nice fall/halloween read.

Will write a longer review when I have time…but for now I’ll just say that I have such mixed feelings about the ending. So bittersweet. And I understand it. But I’m so torn about it. I will say that this had a wonderful, nostalgic, spooky, whimsical atmosphere to it. The prose was beautiful. It had gorgeous elements and some of the most beautiful written lines. I loved how it felt and the old, historic feel to it. Very warm and just a lovely quick read. BUT. The ending! Ugh. So torn. Also I guessed that plot twist / secret semi quickly which didn’t necessarily take away the fun, but it just…ahh I’m just so torn!!!!! So tough to decide how I feel on it!

Will definitely be reading more from this author in the future though! Absolutely adored the way she writes.

I liked it up until Penny is revealed to be Hazel. It went downhill from there. To be honest I wish the book had ended with Bo killing Hazel. I don’t buy that the “power of love” undid 200 years of killing innocent teens and suffering in isolation beneath the sea.
