This was a great book. The author takes his time to world-build, but mid way through you can expect to well-versed in the unique terms used throughout. The payoff is satisfying and makes me immediately want to read more. So glad I found this through Library of a Viking.

I liked the fantasy world of the book, and even though I debated on whether I was going to DNF it, I stuck with it.

If you're looking for a fantasy pirate story, I'd recommend this one. It has a lot of sea-faring action and some political intrigue.

While in the beginning the new world created by Barker seemed daunting, I received the most useful tip: keep reading. The story will guide you through the novelties, and they will eventually click to fill their purpose. What then remains is a world filled with beautifully flawed characters and tense action scenes. When I finished, I wished I had already bought the next book to continue reading. 100% worth it go if it a try, although I can also see how this book might not be for everybody for the very same reasons that I liked the book.
