The myth of Free Will.
This is an eye-opening look at how public opinion can be manipulated through media, for political power and profit. Propaganda and manipulation are nothing new, of course. But whereas in the past they worked by "bombarding" a large group and hoping to persuade as many people as possible, now they are becoming precision-guided munitions. In recent years some of the smartest people in the world have worked on hacking the human brain in order to make you click on ads and sell you stuff. Now these methods are being used to sell you politicians and ideologies, too.
Humans certainly have a will – but it isn’t free. This is not abstract theory. You can witness this easily. Just observe the next thought that pops up in your mind. Where did it come from? Did you freely choose to think it? Obviously not. We are constantly being bombarded with propaganda; our minds are molded, our tastes formed, our ideas suggested. This book is particularly important as a way to get to know our weaknesses. Recognizing propaganda can help us make better decisions and read more accurately our environment and what's going on.

I short book I wanted to read after hearing it referenced on the Behaviour Panel. I found it enlightening in the sense that it explains how we are all being manipulated every day, especially lately, to believe what others want us to or to put ourselves and our opinions into pre-determined boxes. "You believe X, therefore I am going to assume you are Y & Z also". Despite some of the egotistical passages I think Bernays truly believed that this would only be used for good, evident by his shock to learn that Goebbels using his book. We have the benefit of hindsight [with history] but still the methods are used on us.
