The poops I had while reading this on the toilet were better, for the most part.

I was actually surprised that I had seen almost all of these scenarios before. What bugged me was that I thought that most of them were not philosophical problems. Or, if they are, then I don't think they are worth discussing. I don't understand what can be gained out of talking about the reality of categories and stuff like that. I would hope that if I read a more textbooky 'higher' version of philosphy, then it would be better, but I don't think that is the case and that is sad.

because of the gimmick-y nature of the "one hundred" thought experiments, the book is shallow and repetitive. baggini also often forces his own opinions as the only reasonable conclusion, particularly when he suggests that "If God is good, it is because God is and chooses to do what is already good God doesn't make something good by choosing it; he chooses it because it is good." well, descartes would disagree. i also thought it kinda screwy that baggini didn't distinguish between sources and influences ("Readers should therefore assume that these sources [cited in the thought experiment] provide no more than the inspiration for the scenarios in this book.") when several of the thought experiments are lifted wholesale from the source.

I just don't like philosophy books. It annoyed me too much to finish.

3 1/2 Stars. This was a good book sometimes and an annoying book other times. There were times when it was too tedious to read some of the conclusions, because it was so easy for me to pose one that seemed better to me. Either way, it wasn't a total bad read, though I don't plan on ever reading it again.
