The cartooning is often excellent, and it's got an interesting premise. But the ending felt pretty undercooked, and there was an enormous time jump that didn't make much visual sense. Also I'm not typically one to complain about this, but the main character was pretty obnoxious.

An instant favourite! Murawiec is a master in visual storytelling.

She is one of those rare artists who is not afraid to work and think 'outside' of the pages. The busy, primary colours give shape to the city in a way that perfectly reflects the chaos and desperation of this fictional world. It screams at you from every corner of your vision, begging to be heard.

Murawiec's compositions are absolutely incredible and give this graphic novel a vividness that is captivating and addicting. The way in which she switches between a very flat, cartoonish style to a more figurative style in the scope of a few frames is gorgeous, and it flows so well that it easily goes unnoticed when one is not paying attention. The page where Ali goes to hug Manel after she received bad news is so encaptivating, it took my breath away.

This story is a recipe of things which I love to see in a graphic novel: it has a unique setting, great visual storytelling, good pacing, and it is also absurd, unexpected and deeply human. A must read!
