A quick summer read with an expressive dog. The dog survives. Janice, a house cleaner, absorbs stories from people she meets. She is engaged to work by nonagenarian that resembles Scheherazade. Mrs. B. keeps teasing out bits of a story about Becky, a woman of negotiable affections from the fin de siècle.

Despite appearing to be a smart woman, Janice manages to keep making a complete hash of her own life. Ultimately, she collects the whole story of an historical figure, and is able to reconcile her own. It would be 3.5* but Decius, the fox terrier, wins the day and rounds it up to 4.

This story reminded me very much a Fredrik Backman story; there are connections made between unlikely characters and the main chaeacter learns to really embrace herself.  Overall, a nice, feel-good story.

Life is short and I felt that absolutely nothing was grabbing me about this book, so it goes on the DNF pile.
