that was fun! my favourite character was sarah thane, who saw a ridiculous romance plot was a-foot and promptly involved herself for the pursuit of great lols. :D 3.5 stars

Heyer is very smart in this one, giving us our choice of heroines. If the first, a French 18 year old, doesn't suit, then perhaps the 28 year old English woman will. (ditto respective love interests). For me, I prefered the second group.

Okay, I'm on board: Georgette Heyer is a smashing read. Think Jane Austen crossed with P.G. Wodehouse and Oscar Wilde and you have a pretty good idea of this one. Great fun.

Loved this book. Reminded me of the kind of humor in The Importance of Being Earnest. It had a mystery to solve all while managing to be really funny. I think this would make a great movie.

I picked up this book as a romance and I found myself often laughing out loud. Heyer often has humor in her books, but this was very comedic.

"Everything we did was quite useless!" said Eustacie, quite disgusted.
"I know," said Miss Thane, sadly shaking her head. "It does not bear thinking of."
"I do not know why you should complain," remarked Sir Tristram. "You have had a great deal of adventure, which is what I understood you both to want."
"Yes, that is true," acknowledged Eustacie. "But some of was not very comfortable. And I must say that I am not at all pleased that it is you who have found the ring, because you did not want to have an adventure, or to do anything romantic. It seems to me very unfair."
This book was so fun. Five stars for enjoyability.
