that epilogue was the sappiest thing i've ever read LMAO i love chloe gong so much

some parts of the plot were far too convenient & benmars weren't around for nearly long enough but overall i LOVED this book & i'm depressed over the secret shanghai universe being over what am i supposed to do now

also phoebe & alisa are in my top 5 secret shanghai characters now<33

(i am once again asking for the juliette/marshall/orion/alisa novella i NEED it)

p.s. congrats to romajuliette for their pumpkin<33 also to orion and marshall for WHATEVER THE HELL THAT WAS that was never addressed. i'm completely insane over it thank you guys i will never recover

This left off somewhere between Foul Lady Fortune and Last Violent Call. Within these 544 pages, Chloe manages to create twist after twist, build suspense and seep in romance. There were turns I wasn't expecting, which I love because I can often guess plots waaay in advance.

What an amazing conclusion to a series that started 4 years ago with These Violent Delights.

Chloe has a knack for making her cityscape a loud, visceral backdrop where her stories unfold and her characters have to navigate. I know very little of Chinese history, but this has spurred me on to look into it more.

The way she handles all the various love interests with delicacy and gentleness is really nice to see, nothing feels rushed.

While the main characters are Rosalind and Orion, the side characters do not feel like an afterthought, they each contribute to the events. It's interesting to see how they interact despite being on two politically opposite sides, and how family, and found family, prevails.

If you are not aware Celia is a transwoman, and the way she has been portrayed since page one has been so respectful, especially as we explore her two dead names - she was forced to take on her dead sister's identity so she could fit in, I cannot imagine the horror. And it's so nice to see how Oliver accepts her for exactly who she is without many words, explanations or questions. He just loves her.

This was the absolute perfect time being to the series!

4.5 stars. Ahhhh I love this series. Lots of people and plots to keep track of which can be hard. But once you get the hang of it, this series is great. Also I am living for these romances - so cute!

I think I like this more than I FLF. I had really grown to love Rosalind and Alisa as this story progressed. I think I’ll always love Juliette and Roma the most so it was always so nice to see them (even for a little bit) through out the story (not to mention it was nice to see Benedikt and Marshall) anyways, I loved this so much. I think it wrapped everything up so well. I only have praise to say tbh.
