As much as I like Tobias and his arc, this ultimately hit the point where I was all “whatever”. Without the Human stuff we get a bit stuck in a rut. There’s some great stuff here but the final third is a dud.

Tobias POV books are so full of emotion. His view of the fight for earth, as a character who no longer has worries about things like homework or family, lends urgency and gravitas to the whole series.
I’m rereading these using the Audiomorphs podcast’s read alouds, and for this third book they’ve started using animal sound effects. A nice touch.

I feel like the pacing in this volume was much slower than the break-neck pace of volumes 1 and 2, but it makes sense for the target audience, and I think it works really well
