Begin writes a very honest and accessible book about the way foreignness and American identity were constructed in the New Deal era, with food serving as the gathering point for observations that would shape culture well into the future. Incredibly interesting work, with high consideration for the way senses (particularly taste) are reproduced and shaped in/by the archive.
