Listened to the audio version in one sitting
Friends Second Chance romance
Single POV

Cried my eyes out!!
The narrator did a phenomenal job!!
Told in dual timelines
Loved the family and the meddling dad. Music is very much the core of the story.

The story starts slowly, and left me wondering where the author would be going. But, at last, all the background and tension in developing the moods and relationships paid off, and the final 20% of the book provided a stunning emotional catharsis for any reader.

Emmette and Quinto’s story moved me so much. I’m always a fan of a good second chance romance trope and this book did it well. Dominic Lim crafted the perfect love story, and he did it while incorporating bits and pieces of Filipino culture throughout the entire book. Sometimes we meet the right people at the wrong time and if we’re lucky they come back around when the time is right.

This book gets a 5/5 from me.Though the spice is minimal id that’s your thing it’s at most a 1 ⁄ 5 on the spice scale. I absolutely loved Quinto’s story. I even found myself engrossed in the side character’s stories. I truly want to know more about Ujima and their journey to becoming the person they were born to be. This is a must read for your TBR, especially if you love queer love stories.

Just as a warning there are brief mentions of possible SA in part of the book but nothing graphic so keep that in mind before reading.

This book was truly a beaut - all the good good second chance then and now and forever feels, deeply passionate colorful descriptions of music that made the feels even deeper, and a cast of characters who were impossible not to love. A little pining, the smallest bit of meddling, a complete love letter to what it means to be Filipino-American and to love and to lose. My heart! This book is the perfect reminder of why it's so important to hear queer love stories by queer men - more, please!

Cute, gay rom-com with Asian and BIPOC representation. (His dad's cooking really puts you in the Filipino American "place"!) I listened to the audiobook narrated by Aaron J Albano, which included some music and singing to make the recording more immersive.

This book brought such a smile to my face and a tear to my eyes. The song they wrote is so pure and wish someone would record it.

I’m such a sucker for a cute gay romcom

Narration was good, especially the songs! I think I’m not connecting with it right now but will try again. I enjoyed the descriptions of Filipino dishes and his dad’s character (so far).

I’m iffy about how their friendship will develop into a relationship (I assume since it’s a romance).  Quito is obviously more interested in him than his own boyfriend,. While Mark doesn’t seem like a bad guy and maybe doesn’t understand Quito fully, it’s also Quito not confiding in him soooo is this where it’s okay to hang out with  your past crush? Hmm. Want to see how it plays out.
