Not needing to get up I read till 6:55 h am this morning, when I had the book finished.
A read a few reviews here that did not like the turn the Carol & Tony relationship was taking. While the end can be also the end of the series, it was perfect for me. And the other of the story lines are as gritty as ever. Definitive one of the best books I read so far this year. And this is why I count Val McDermid with her Tony Hill & Carol Jordan - series among my favorite authors. I read some of her other books, and some are as good, while others, like the Kate Brannigan - series are lighter reading, but I enjoyed these nonetheless.
And for those who have not seen it, I strongly suggest to check out the TV-DVD-Box of Wire in the blood, the too short UK-TV-Show, it's as of now also on Netflix.

I liked the book but I think part of the problem was that this was the first book I read and it is part of a series;the book has to explain what happened in the past. As an American I had to get used to the British English.

This was a Barnes & Noble Free Fridays selection back in September that I've just got around to reading. While it is book 7 in the series, the author provides enough back story that it's very easy to follow along. I love her writing style as well as the characters in the book. I would definitely be interested in going back and reading the previous 6 books in this series.

I'm reading the Jordan/Hill books out of order, so I sort of knew where this was going. But still... an absolutely masterful example of how to construct a many-threaded crime story and end it in a way that completely works (and surprised me too). Heartily recommended.

Another great book from Val - nice to see someone return, although hot damn that’s quite the trail of destruction they leave behind...
