The pacing was so slow at times but otherwise this is a terrific fantasy novel about love, friendship, and found family. Esther and Johanna are half sisters that have been separated for years. They're from a family of magical librarians that protect spell books. When Esther is attacked at the compound in Antartica she works at, she flees to escape her attackers. At the Library in Europe, Nicholas a Scribe and his hired bodyguard Collins discover family secrets that could be killer. This book weaves the world building so effectively into the characters and their motives. Its both very YA feeling and also insanely gory and dark but very well balanced.

Loved this book, I loved the unique magical system, the plot was amazing and some of the twists **WOW** 
Will definitely recommend this book

A little slow to start but so beautifully written that you don’t really notice. I love this magic system and really hope there’s another book in the works. I want more of the book magic and the possible chaos of freed magical talent. And the library becoming a school for the gifted, like the X-men!

I didn’t dislike this book, it holds a lot of promise and the concept was interesting. HOWEVER the stakes didn’t feel high enough, the plot was predictable and slow, and the ending was abrupt. The plot and/or character development was not always moved along through actual storytelling, but by summing up conversations or actions that happened “off the page” in dialogue later on - this is a major pet peeve of mine. I enjoyed the premise and the story overall, but it fell short of expectations.
