I loved this second in the series more than the first.  Cute and fun.  But!!  It again ends with things in a mess for our monsters…I don’t know how they will fix this one.

11/27/19 3/5 stars FINALLY finished a book. Holy shiiiit. This book could not keep my attention. I fell asleep on multiple different occasions.
There’s something about this series in general that just doesn’t connect with me like The Clique does. It doesn’t have the same heart. It’s almost like you just don’t see enough of the character’s personalities. I probably won’t pick up the next book very soon/at all because to be honest I’m trying to get some books read.

EDIT 02/11/20 Libby stats: picked up 20 times and read for an hour and 6 minutes.

Just as cliché and dated as the first book. I would have loved this as a kid but I can't get over how bland the characters are. Frankie and Cleo's perspective feel very similar, just with a different level of wealth and popularity. I did appreciate the extra perspectives compared to the first book, especially as it focuses more on the actual Monster High characters rather than the book-only protagonist. I also absolutely gasped at the implied plot twist at the end so sure, I'm very engaged reading this but is it good? Yeah, no.

I just wrote a whole review for this book but my browser refreshed and deleted it all. I didn't even want to write along review in the first place, so I'm going to make this one even shorter since I'm currently ticked (I guess I need to learn to write my reviews in a separate place and then paste them here when I'm done since this happens frequently). Basically, this book had a more interesting plot than the last one, so I'd probably give it more of a 3.4 than a 3, but I wouldn't bump it up to a 4. Billy and Frankie are adorable together, but Frankie is painfully thick and oblivious (and annoyingly falls for boys at the drop of a hat). Candace is still annoying to me from how manipulative and bratty she was in the first book, even if I'm supposed to like her now. Cleo is unbelievably selfish and a crappy person. I'm pretty sure photoshoots wouldn't get cancelled just because one thing went wrong, but what do I know about how magazines work? Everyone is still annoyingly impulsive when it comes to decision making. The characters are all still beautiful, stylish, and perfect with no noticeable flaws (besides Cleo's terrible personality), so the whole message of self love, acceptance, and inner beauty being more important than outer appearance is not really evident at all in the text. I still think the book has moments of humor (I had to laugh when the RADs mentioned how their lives would certainly be turned into a book series for teens and that Jackson drew them all as dolls) and quirkiness, but honestly I think this series would be a lot more relatable to shallow teenagers than adults. I would say I should expect to give average ratings to books targeted towards teenagers when I'm an adult, but I adore some middle grade series like "Dork Diaries" and "Percy Jackson and the Olympians," so I actually do expect more of this book series than it has delivered thus far.
