The one time I will ever say this- the movie is better than the book

I never knew there was a book. Some parts were perfectly set up for the movie already and others radically changed. Also very fat shame-y.

Normally, people say watch the movie before reading the book, because the book is always so much better.

I found the reverse to be true in this case. Don't get me wrong, it was an entertaining read, but I definitely liked the movie better, it seemed to have more of a plot. The book itself wasn't bad, but I found it a little tedious to get through, maybe because it treated the law school as a complete joke. Oh, I know, it's the way it was meant to be, but it was a little irksome.

Other than that, the plot was fun, if unrealistic!

Keeping the three star rating for now. Might change when I get to watch the movie though.

God, how did this become the source material for one of the most iconic movies and musical?? I swear it feels like this book came after the movie, not before and it is a nightmare to go through. Elle's character is done so poorly. There is also no Emmett so we are stuck with Elle being into Warner for the majority of the book. It also refuses to focus on the real issues that Elle faced in the story, choosing to focus on her believing that blondes are oppressed instead of the real issues of women not being taken seriously in male dominated fields. If the adaptations didn't exist I would've given this 2 stars but because both the movie and the musical tell this story so much better, it deserves it's measly little 1 star.
